The reality has dawned on me, on how the music industry has dramatically changed in the past few years. How the rise of the mp3 has pretty much ass-fucked the majors since CD’s have become virtually obsolete, and how labels are now seriously suffering because of such changes.
I feel bad for your majors, I really do. Whats going to happen to the Sonys and Universals of the world now that you can buy directly from the artist and “packaging fee’s” that they’d suck ouf of the artist don’t exsist?
More money for us, right?
I wonder though.. What’s going to happen now that they can’t shelf an artist for years just so they can write them off at the end of the year on their taxes? Whats going to happen now that indies dominate the scene? Whats going to happen now that thanks to social networking, people are creating their own buzz and not the promo dep?
Artists really need to inform themselfs on these things. Read every book out there, keep up with the laws and changes, ask your entertainment lawyers about changes in laws/unions…know your rights & your copyrights.
Knowledge is Power.
